Waitangi Tribunal hears opening submissions from the Crown

The Waitangi Tribunal is in Waitangi until Friday and will hear Crown opening submissions Yesterday submissions about the Poroti spring were presented by kaumatua Taipari Munro and others who talked about the loss of the control of the springs by Tangata-whenua.The springs case is also part of the National Water Claim by the NZ Maori Council which is being heard by the Tribunal.

`Waitangi Tribunal returns to Taitokerau for Ngapuhi Stage Two Hearings

The Waitangi Tribunal will return to Waitangi next week to hear evidence from Crown witnesses from Puni Kokiri, the Ministry of Business and innovation and Employment and other crown agents including the Ministry of Health, Culture and Heritage, Conservation.

The Tribunal will also hear technical evidence from Paul Hamer on ‘The Power to settle the Title? , the operation of the Papa Tupu block committees in the Paparahi O Te Raki inquiry district, 1900-1909 and the tangata whenua witnesses on Poroti Springs.


Radio Tautoko will broadcast the hearings from the Copthorne Hotel Waitangi from Monday 5 December.
