Hua Parakore Show

Hua Parakore is a gardening show presented by Michelle Hudson. Every week Michelle gives you hints and tips of what to plant and when to plant using the Maramataka, an ancient maori calender.

This week 19 June – 22 June 2010 she talks about planting winter hua whenua that grows above the ground and gives a receipe for kumarahau cordial.

Whakato nga kakano: Lettuce, spinach, beans, peas, marigold, calundula, parsley.

Whakato nga tipu: Lettuce, spinach, beans, peas, marigold, calundula, parsley.

Hua rakau: Whakato nga hua rakau a tenei marama.

Kumarahau Cordial

3 Lemons
2c Sugar
2c Water
1c Kumarahau leaves

Peel rind/skin of lemons thinly
put into pot with sugar, water and kumarahau leaves.
Boil for 10 minutes.  Squeeze lemons and add juice to pot  Allow to cool.  Strain and bottle.  This is a very strong syrup,
add a small amount in a glass then add water to taste.

Getting a facelift

The lead up to the birthday and blessing of the up graded building saw a great flurry of activity within the small community of Mangamuka. It brought nga taitamariki, kuia and kaumatua together as well as interest from people travelling along State Highway 1.
